Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Review – 500GB
As the name implies, the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive is essentially a NAS device with media hub abilities, intended to back up and playback multimedia files across your home network. Where it stands slightly out from the crowd is in its support of UPnP for DLNA-certified devices and iTunes, allowing the NAS to store and stream music, video and pictures to a variety of PC, laptop, home consumer electronics and Apple products. Physically the device is wider than the Iomega DVR Expander we reviewed not too long ago.
LG KM900 Arena reviewed: sluggish iPhone clone?
Back when we played with the LG KM900 Arena at Mobile World Congress in February, we couldn’t help but think that the company’s new 3D S-Class interface was cluttered and unnecessarily overwhelming. Now that GSM Helpdesk have had the opportunity to review the handset in full, it looks like that judgment was thoroughly prognostic . Willeke praises the KM900’s design and animations, and the 5-megapixel camera gets kudos for its clear photos and decent color reproduction. As a pleasant bonus to a feature phone, the media player not only works but does so very well, not least thanks to Dolby Mobile being used. However the display is slow to respond at times, and the GUI can be overwhelming with simply too many options to choose from. LG’s much-vaunted widgets are, in fact, cumbersome, and the browser – despite having UMTS, HSDPA and WiFi to pick from – is sluggish. Average pages took 30 to 40 seconds to load.
LG GD900 glass keypad phone gets official demo video
The first official demo video for the LG GD900 has been released, showing off the cellphone’s multitouch capabilities and its transparent slide-out numeric keypad. On show at CTIA last month, the GD900 uses its keypad as a secondary capacitive trackpad for gestures and navigation, while the main touchscreen itself also supports multitouch. Video promo, plus live demo, after the cut Other specs include 7.2Mbps HSDPA, handwriting recognition and an innovative use of shortcuts which rely on users tracing out letters onto the screen. This way you can launch, say, the media player by tracing “M”. The main display is 3-inches. LG are keeping quiet on exact launch details, but the LG GD900 is expected to arrive in Europe sometime in Q2 2009. No word on when – or even if – it will make it over to the US, so for now enjoy the videos.
Lenovo MRT800 is PMP with touchscreen
Lenovo is jumping into the PMP market shortly with their MRT800 . This device looks pretty slick and features a touchscreen, which begs the question, what device doesn’t have a touchscreen these days? Lenovo, more typically associated with computers, will be releasing this media player to the public soon, though we don’t know the exact date as of yet
Netgear Digital Entertainer Elite EVA9150 reviewed: expensive & excellent
Netgear’s Digital Entertainer Elite EVA9150 was announced last December , but it’s taken a while for reviews to emerge. Promising a huge collection of supported video and audio codecs, plus 1080p output, wireless and wired HD streaming, YouTube and a removable 500GB hard-drive, the EVA9150 landed on My Digital Entertainers test bench for a good going-over . Compared to previous Netgear digital media players, the EVA9150 is far faster and smoother in operation. Photo navigation is quicker, and streamed media – either from elsewhere on the network or online – is automatically buffered on the EVA9150’s hard-drive. There’s also a neat remote PC viewer feature, though this requires an app loading onto any PC you want to control, and usability is low thanks to only the remote being available for navigation. In fact the general conclusion is overwhelmingly positive, especially if you already own something from Netgear’s media player range as the devices will not only live in harmony but pass content between themselves using the “Follow Me” feature. The only problem we can see is the price: currently up for preorder at around $400, it’s not a cheap way to access your media from the living room.
